Hey, my name is Valentine, and I'm a proud Tech Sister. These past six months in code school have been an amazing journey, and I find myself completely immersed in the world of coding. It's incredible how I've discovered my passion for tech, especially considering my previous career as an accountant, where following the same accounting system became monotonous. Now, I'm excited to switch careers and embark on a meaningful path where I can apply my skill set to its fullest potential.
Discovering the Need:
During my time at school, I realized that out of 30 students in the classroom, there were only six ladies, including myself. Sadly, we barely knew each other beyond our names. Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a women in tech initiative organized by Google. It was an exhilarating experience to be in a room filled with over 50 women who shared the same passion for tech as I did. However, what saddened me was the lack of social interaction among us. We barely went beyond exchanging greetings, forming cliques based on pre-existing connections or companionship during the conference.
Creating Tech Sisters Kenya:
At that moment, I yearned for a sense of belonging and stronger connections among fellow women in tech. I envisioned a community where we could engage freely, spend quality time together, and support one another without hesitation or isolation. And thus, the idea of the " Hey Tech Sister 👋" community was born.
